Plywood

A series of plywood panels separate the large common area of the cabin from the smaller private areas. They slide open to reveal the sleeping area, outfitted with custom bunk beds.

Simple oak furnishings from Habitat blend with the birch millwork and bamboo floor. The cabinetry, benches, and doors were built by Olivier, who studied design before becoming a filmmaker.

Storage was built in all down the hallway, making efficient use of a linear space.

All of the furnishings are either hand-me-downs or found on Craigslist. "A big part of the project was sourcing furniture as economically as possible," says Pang.

The great room includes oak floors as well as birch cabinetry and wall panels, all treated with a whitening wash to help spread natural light.

Heating elements are built right into the countertop in this minimalist kitchen.

Brutalist materials like concrete and steel are balanced by the gentleness of the wooden carpentry. Ash wood is used for the cabinetry throughout, from kitchen cabinets to storage units.

Bruno transformed the building’s ground-floor bakery into an office for his eponymous firm.

Oiled oak floors, plywood walls, and a vaulted ceiling provide a light, serene feeling on the interior.

Thoughtfully placed windows provide gorgeous views. The treetops inspired the Gunnings’ name for the home, Tree House.
